Hissyfest 2018: 2300

2300: be it Newcastle’s postcode, a year, the time, or a price… the possibilities are limitless!

Hissyfest is Tantrum’s annual short play festival, featuring new writing from ten emerging writers. Hissyfest embraces collaboration, not only showcasing new writing but giving opportunity to emerging and established directors and actors to produce quality new work. Each year Hissyfest grows from strength to strength, and 2018 promises to deliver a highly entertaining evening of comedy, drama and the absurd.

2018 Hissyfest Writers Lab

In 2018 five emerging writers will be given the opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s most renowned contemporary playwrights, Lachlan Philpott.
Be mentored by Lachlan as he guides you through the process of writing a short, new play.
Applicants will be selected following the submission of a short application form, and small piece of writing. 
This is an opportunity for young and emerging artists 16yrs+.

Open submissions

An open call out for short plays will be held in June, followed soon by an open call out for applicants to direct and act.
Open auditions will be held in September. This is an opportunity for young and emerging artists 16yrs+.
