Tantrum X

 TANTRUM X ENSEMBLE

Tantrum X Ensemble is for members of our Tribe ready to ask questions and listen carefully, connect with new ideas and people, and collaborate with each other as artists to create and present brand new contemporary performance. Tantrum X Ensemble runs as an additional weekly workshop alongside our afternoon program. As long as you’ve participated in another Tantrum workshop within the previous year and have energy and imagination to burn, you’re eligible to join! Tantrum X Ensemble is broken into Junior (ages 7-12 / Yr 2-6) and Senior (ages 12-18 / Yr 7-12) groups and framed by a new creative project each semester that will playfully challenge participants’ skills and preconceptions about what theatre can be. While it's not a requirement to be concurrently registered in another Tantrum workshop, you get a sizeable discount for Tantrum X Ensemble if you are (see below)!

Both Tantrum X Ensemble workshops are limited to 10 participants each. Register now to secure your place.

THE SHAKE UP
To kick things off in 2019, Tantrum X Ensemble will be involved in making and presenting a BIG performance project that will culminate in June. 'The Shake Up' will use the 30th anniversary of the 1989 earthquake as a platform for exploring moments of change in Newcastle’s past to prepare for what the future might hold. If push came to shove and things were shaken up, what’s precious to you and what could you do without? Utilising different accounts of the earthquake, the Ensemble will devise and perform a brave new work connecting with their local community.

'The Shake Up' will bring together young people (through Tantrum X Ensemble), emerging artists and industry professionals to deliver a monumental project combining performance, live and public art, and community forum to mark the resilience of Novocastrians, while empowering young people to have the same grit when dealing with adversity.

Central to the project is a partnership with leading contemporary theatre company Branch Nebula from Sydney. Beyond collaborating on ‘The Shake Up’ (particularly with emerging artists), Branch Nebula will be involved with Tantrum over the next 2 years, helping to grow our capacity to produce creative events that place community members at their heart.

Weekly workshops will run throughout Terms 1 and 2 (see below for dates and times). Additionally, participants will be required for a school holiday intensive (23, 24 & 26 April, specific times TBC), production week (17-21 June, specific dates/times TBC) and the event dates (22-23 & 28-30 June, specific call times TBC).
